Students in Chocolá need your help

Amigos de Chocolá was established in 2005 to assist in providing foundations for long-term social and economic development in the town of Chocolá, Guatemala. Early on, we identified poverty and a lack of education to overcome it as major challenges for residents. Amigos continues to focus on educational support to provide opportunities to rise out of conditions that contribute to poverty.

Our programs include educational and financial assistance to students and school sites. During the 2023 school year, students returned to the classroom after nearly two years of virtual instruction due to the Covid 19 pandemic. A total of 64 students received scholarship funding in 2023. All but 4 of those students finished the academic year and look forward to continuing their education in 2024.

Providing a vehicle for students to stay in school, practice good work habits and learn to succeed at whatever they do is central to our mission. Amigos has encouraged education by supporting scholarships to students whose families simply can’t afford to send them to school otherwise.

In the developing world, there is a premium on learning and retaining life skills. Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders. You can help fulfill the promise of tomorrow with a donation to an educational scholarship.

It takes a relatively modest sum to fund a scholarship for one of these deserving students

• $250 (£200) will provide one year’s scholarship for a middle school student**

• $350 (£275) will provide one year’s scholarship for a high school student**

• $100 (£80) will provide 100 educational CDs, plus books and paper supplies for the Amigos’ Computer Learning Center

Please tell us if you would like to sponsor a student for one, two or three years.

Of course, any amount will help sustain educational opportunities for needy students in Chocolá.

You can be assured that over 95% of donations received go directly to our scholarship and social initiatives that benefit the students and their families in Chocola.
